NJA Grantee, Sisters Network of Central NJ, Inc. Shine in the Community
Sisters Network of Central NJ, Inc., located in Somerset, presented their signature breast health education program – The Young but Not the Reckless – to students in the Social Studies Department at Plainfield High School. Long-time Social Studies teacher and breast cancer Survivor,Tiffany Corbett, hosted the event. Led by Sisters’ Network Executive Director, Dorothy Reed, key members of the Sisters Organization presented a lively, interactive program, educating young men and women on the value of breast cancer awareness and the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices.

A free National Teleconference and Webinar, "The Impact of the Holocaust on Breast Cancer in Jewish Families Today" was held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Through a Small Grant, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® North Jersey Affiliate has provided funding to Sharsheret to help make this teleconference possible. Learn about new research demonstrating a higher incidence of breast cancer among Jews living in Europe during the Holocaust, the challenges of tracing family cancer histories during the Holocaust, and concerns of Jewish women and families considering genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer. Panelists include Researcher Lital Keinan-Boker, MD, PhD, MPH, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences, University of Haifa, Rifky Atkin, Sharsheret Link and Child of Holocaust Survivors, and Niecee Schonberger, MS, CGC, Genetics Program Coordinator, Sharsheret.
